One of the biggest challenges for small business owners is producing enough content to stay visible. Writing a blog post, filming a Reel, posting on LinkedIn, sending a newsletter — it can feel like a full-time job on its own.
The secret used by busy marketers is simple: create once, repurpose many times. A single well-researched blog post can become ten or more pieces of content across different platforms.
Why repurposing works
- Saves time. The research and thinking are already done.
- Reaches different people. Some of your audience reads blogs, some watches videos, some only sees your emails.
- Reinforces your message. People often need to see an idea several times before acting on it.
- Improves quality. You can invest more in one strong core piece instead of rushing lots of weak ones.
Start with a strong core piece
Repurposing works best when the original is substantial and genuinely useful. A detailed blog post, a recorded webinar, a long video or a thorough guide makes a great foundation. Shallow content produces shallow spin-offs.
Ten ways to repurpose one blog post
Let us use a hypothetical post: “10 Things to Check Before Buying a Villa on the Costa Blanca”, written by a property consultant.
1. A carousel post
Turn each of the ten points into a slide for Instagram or LinkedIn. Carousels are highly saveable and shareable.
2. A series of short tips
Post one tip per day for ten days on Facebook or Instagram, each linking back to the full article.
3. A short video or Reel
Film a 30–60 second video summarising the top three points. Our Instagram Reels ideas offer plenty of formats.
4. A LinkedIn post
Share a personal story related to the topic, with key lessons and a link to the full post. See our LinkedIn starter guide.
5. A newsletter feature
Summarise the post in your email newsletter and invite subscribers to read the full version. Short of ideas for your next email? Try our 30 newsletter ideas.
6. A downloadable checklist
Turn the post into a one-page PDF checklist and offer it in exchange for an email address. That is a lead magnet.
7. A quote graphic
Pull out the most striking line and turn it into a simple branded image.
8. A Google Business Profile update
Post a short summary with a link to your Google Business Profile to show you are active and knowledgeable.
9. A FAQ section
Turn points into questions and answers on a relevant service page — useful for both customers and search engines.
10. A talk or video series
Expand the post into a longer YouTube video, a podcast episode or a talk at a local networking event.
Adapt, do not just copy
Each platform has its own style and audience. Simply pasting the same text everywhere does not work. Adjust:
- Length: shorter on Instagram and X, longer on LinkedIn and email.
- Format: vertical video for Reels and TikTok, square or portrait images for feeds.
- Tone: more professional on LinkedIn, more casual on Instagram.
- Language: consider bilingual versions for mixed audiences (see posting in English, Spanish or both).
Build repurposing into your workflow
When planning a blog post, plan the spin-offs at the same time. Add them to your content calendar and batch-create them in one session. Within a few months, you will have a steady stream of quality content with a fraction of the effort.
Refresh and reuse evergreen content
Do not let good content gather dust. Popular posts can be updated and re-shared months later. New followers will not have seen them, and existing followers will appreciate the reminder.
