Most small business websites put a lot of effort into the homepage and very little into their service pages. That is a missed opportunity. Service pages are where people with a specific need land from Google, and where they decide whether to get in touch.
A great service page does two jobs: it ranks for the searches your customers make, and it persuades them to take action. Here is how to write one.
One service, one page
If you offer website design, social media management and blog writing, each deserves its own page. Lumping everything onto a single “Services” page makes it harder to rank for any of them and harder for visitors to find what they need.
Start with keyword research
Find out how people search for the service. “Website design”, “web designer”, “website for my business” and “diseño web” may all be relevant. Choose one main keyword and a handful of related phrases. Our beginner’s guide to keyword research explains how.
A proven page structure
1. A clear, specific headline
Include the service and, where relevant, the location or audience. “Social Media Management for Small Businesses on the Costa Blanca” tells people and search engines exactly what the page is about.
2. An opening that speaks to the customer
Start with the customer’s problem or goal, not your company history. “Struggling to post consistently? We plan, create and publish your social media so you can focus on running your business.”
3. A primary call to action near the top
Do not make people scroll to the bottom to contact you. Add a button near the top: “Get a free quote” or “Book a call”.
4. What is included
Explain exactly what the customer gets. Bullet points work well. Vague promises (“we deliver excellence”) are less persuasive than specifics (“12 posts a month across Facebook and Instagram, with monthly reporting”).
5. Who it is for
Describe the ideal customer. This helps the right visitors feel understood and helps the wrong ones self-select out.
6. How it works
A simple step-by-step process reduces uncertainty and makes it easier to say yes.
7. Benefits and outcomes
Translate features into results: more enquiries, more time, less stress, better visibility.
8. Proof
Add testimonials, case studies, before-and-after examples or portfolio pieces specific to this service. Proof on the page is far more persuasive than a separate testimonials page nobody visits.
9. Pricing guidance
If possible, include “from” prices or example packages. Transparency builds trust and filters enquiries.
10. FAQs
Answer common questions and objections: timescales, contracts, what you need from the client, languages spoken, areas covered. FAQs also help with search visibility and AI-generated answers.
11. A strong closing call to action
Repeat your call to action, with multiple contact options: form, phone, email and WhatsApp.
SEO essentials
- Title tag: include the main keyword and location, under about 60 characters.
- Meta description: a compelling summary, under about 155 characters, with a reason to click.
- URL: short and descriptive, such as /social-media-management/.
- Headings: a single H1 and logical H2s and H3s.
- Internal links: link to related services, relevant blog posts and your contact page.
- Images: real photos with descriptive alt text.
- Schema markup: service and FAQ structured data where appropriate.
Writing tips
- Write in the second person (“you”) — it is about the customer.
- Keep paragraphs short and scannable.
- Use plain language, not jargon.
- Be specific: numbers, names, places and examples.
- Let your personality show. Small businesses win on character.
How long should a service page be?
Long enough to answer the questions a customer has before contacting you. For many services, that is somewhere around 600 to 1,200 words, but structure and clarity matter more than length.
Connect it to your blog
Blog posts that answer related questions should link to your service page, and your service page can link to helpful posts. This structure helps visitors and search engines understand your expertise. See is blogging still worth it?
